LOOOONNNNGGG Overdue Post

Sorry for the lack of posts, Christmas and work have all of my time tied up right now. When I received a package from Dropped Third Strike I knew I had to set aside some blogging time. In other words it is 4:30AM and I am already awake. I sent him some Yankee cards and he responding by sending me a nice package of Red Sox. Eighty-Nine Red Sox to be exact. Amazingly enough I only had 5 of them!! I don't like to do it but to save some time I'm posting a bunch of cards on each scan.

Colors

These are the very first colored heroes cards I have seen other than on other peoples posts. They look great when you put them next to their base card and their black version.

Minis

I got a Red Back Mini Beckett Sport Royalty and really chipped away at my 08 A&G Mini checklist. Here is what I still need:

55 Beckett 105 Papelbon 134 Varitek 171 Drew 333 Crisp 348 Masterson 350 Youkilis.

Just Beautiful

The best of both worlds here. The best photos and the best paintings. I also threw in a Heritage and a Sportflix he sent into the scan. My favorite card Of everything is that black bordered Varitek. It may be my favorite card of the year.

Checklist Bashing

I needed all of these 08U&H. And I love that Gold Ultra Wakefield. Everybody bashes parallels but they always look good when you put them next to their originals. This one makes me want to pick up the rest of the Gold set from that year. I had just received the Youk SP in another trade so now I have one for my Youkilis collection along with my Team Set.

The Scans That Didn't Fit

These cards wouldn't fit in the other scans but I like them just as much. Upper Deck X really sucks but that Varitek Xponential is awesome.

I would like to thank Dropped Third Strike again for all the Red Sox.

Night Mail

I received a package from Night Owl Cards. He had some cards off of my want list and sent them my way.

My favorite player from my favorite set. Youkilis was the last SP I needed from the set.

We offered him arbitration. Will he accept??? I'm now down to 3 cards from the 08 A & G set. I still need Pedroia, Schilling and Bucholtz. Anyone out there have them to trade??

Night Owl even sent me some vintage.My first Heritage Insert cards.

With only 100 cards in the base set I have to be close to a complete team set with this one card.

An 08 Upper Deck Beckett. I will be adding some more sets to my want list in the near future and 08 Upper Deck is going to be one of the first.

Hall of Fame Bound

The report is Greg Maddux will announce his retirement Monday. I really thought he would stick it out a couple more years. I think he is still good enough to.

Best Bathroom Break Ever

I know what a $h!tty title but I guess I'm not feeling to imaginative right now. I was forced by my 4 year old to stop at an obscure convenience store in my hometown for a bathroom break. What a lucky stop it was because this particular convenience store has a baseball card display. My hometown source of cards just went from one (Wal Mart) to two. on top of that they had a pack of A&G. Unfortunately it was the last one but Wal Mart hasn't had one for months.
Adam Dunn - Where do you think Adam is going to land? My bet is he will be in Arizona come springtime.


Brian Roberts - The best player on the worst team.

Troy Glaus - I always pull Troy's cards. I have a ton of his Angel cards. One day I will find a Troy Glaus collector out there somewhere. (or maybe a team collector to unload them on)

Kevin Van Dam - I don't know anything about professional fisherman other than this picture is completely bogus. Every time they show one of these guys on Sportscenter they have more advertisements on their shirts than a NASCAR has decals.
Frank Thomas - Since it is a mini does that make it a little hurt?

Coco Crisp - Red Sox card = Good Pack. Not only is it a card I didn't have but it is a SP. Coco is now officially the first Red Sox I have a 06,07, and 08 A&G card of. Funny thing is I got all three of them within about 3 days of one another.

Jason Schmidt - Topps must have really had to stretch to find a player from every state. Sorry Dodger fans.

Man I love A&G cards. This is my favorite set. If I was a set collector this would be the one I would collect every year. This is the best bathroom stop I ever had to make. I know this post has a $h!tty title but I'm just not feeling to imaginative right now.

Trip to a card shop, kinda

One good thing about travelling is that sometimes I get to go to a card shop somewhere. My little town has no shop so it is great to get to go to one. Sadly I couldn't find a shop in East Knoxville and had to settle for one of those card shops in the mall who rape every customer that makes a purchase. The cheapest game used they had was a Coco Crisp A&G game used bat for $30. I passed on it but I didn't pass on these out of their $1 bin that was 50% off for the weekend.
2006 A&G Mark Loretta #193 - I love the look of A&G. That is the only kind of Red Sox they had in the bin to.

2006 A&G 113 Coco Crisp - This is now the 2nd 2006 A&G Red Sox that I own including the Loretta pictured above.

2006 A&G 346 Bob Fitzsimmons - I'm a sucker for boxing cards. I know Goudey had some but this is the first one I have seen out of A&G Are there more? If so I would love to trade for them or any other boxing cards for that matter.

2007 A&G 113 Coco Crisp - Coco is gone from the Sox but not my collection.

I think I made it out of the store ok with my money intact. I feel sorry for whoever buys that Coco bat card for $30 or an Ortiz jersey card for $90.

Every year I seem to have to search for one of those elusive toys for one of my kids. Last year it was a Bumblebee Transformer that I ended up having to give $70 for on e-bay. This year I couldn't find a certain Tinkerbell doll for my little girl.

Seven stores in Knoxville and no Tinkerbell doll. None to be found in Nashville either. But Paducah Wal Mart saved the day. I also paid $1.47 for gas there. For some reason the gas in Paducah is always about 20 cents less than at home. On top of that Wal Mart had Goudey that my town has been out of for months. I snuck one pack while my wife wasn't looking. Lets Rip!!

149 Jack Wilson - The Bucs are my secret baseball shame since I was born outside of Pittsburgh. Jack is my favorite of the bunch.

56 Bob Feller - Worst smile ever painted on a card.

4 Dan Haren - That guy pitched the ball right through his mouth and out his ear.

84 Carlos Lee Red Backed Mini - Did I mention I love Paducah!! I think I know someone who will be getting this in the mail shortly. It is on his want list.

97 James Loney - What a horrible name to have to grow up with.

276 Bruce Jenner Sport Royalty SP - Did I mention I love Paducah. It is even fun to say Paducah, Paducah, Paducah... Does anyone need this SP?? Drop me an comment or e-mail.

186 Josh Hamilton - Jeter Says: The only way this pack gets any better is if it had some Sox. At least I know I will get some in trade for the Carlso Lee.

Back to business as normal

I'm not so fresh back from my Tennessee vacation. I'm wore out, tired, and broke. Why do we even call it vacation when we travel, to me it is more exhausting than work. At least I got some cards while I was gone. My wife drug me to Wal Mart on Black Friday to catch some deals for Christmas. So while she battled all of the crazies I picked up a pack of cards. Who got he better deal there? This was my first pack of Timeline and I don't think I like it. It looks allot like X. I do like the 93 RCs though. Enough babbling here is the cards.



#?? Jim Thome - The first one out of the pack was a regular Thome card that my White Sox collecting son promptly claimed for his own. At least he gave me something good in return.

Don't tell him but Santa would have gave it to him next month without having to give up his Youkilis.


27 A-Rod - He looks to be locked in, to bad I'm not on these cards.

101 Bobby Wilson - I have no idea who he is but at least it is a RC.


323 Brian Barton - Best looking card in the pack. I love the old SP rookie design. makes me want to dig out some and post them. Maybe later, one more card from this pack to go.



232 KoFu - Hate it!! Looks like a sticker auto without the auto.
