Funniest Baseball Related Quote I've heard in a While

After the Nationals gave Werth his HUGE (7 years 126 Million) payday GMs started talking.  Here is what new Mets GM Sandy Alderson had to say:

"Makes some of our contracts look pretty good.  That’s a long time, and a lot of money. I thought they were trying to reduce the deficit in Washington."

I was shocked at the deal. I though for sure he'd go to your Red Sox or, I don't know, anywhere but the Nats. Not sure he will play up to that 126 million.

ESPN had up an article about how they thought a lot of dealing would get done at the winter meetings. I'm not so sure after this monster contract.

He's good, but 7 years for 126? Thats tough to see.

My favorite quote invvolving the Nationals - when Julian Tavares signed with the Nationals in March 2009: "When you go to a club at 4 in the morning, and you're drunk, a 600-pounder looks like Jennifer Lopez. It's 4 in the morning, I'm drunk, and the Nationals are my J Lo."

I'm not shocked the Nationals got involved. They were in hard after Mark Teixeira. I am surprised they blew every other team out of the water for him though. I saw that Boras did not even take that offer to the other interested teams, it was so much higher than anyone else offered.

This means Carl Crawford is going to get a HUGE payday.

Ha. That is a great quote. We need more baseball people and baseball players making colorful comments like in the old days.

The Werth contract is too big but the Nationals have to overpay to get star talent in their prime. Besides, look at Alfonso Soriano, Ryan Howard, and Adam Dunn. The contracts and production are similar. Werth will end up being overpaid, but he is the type that ages well (unlike the former three mentioned).

I am an Orioles fan but I find the Nationals to be one of the most interesting teams in baseball.

Strasburg and Bryce Harper are literally two of the best prospects in the history of the game. Then they have Zimmerman. He is on a Hall of Fame course and just 25. And Drew Storen. And now Werth. This team is fun.

Honestly, the Nationals front office is making the Orioles look like little wimps right now.
