Goose Joak Original, Nick Green

Nick Green has been told he is the Utility Infielder until Lugo is back from surgery. Nick has had a pretty darn good spring this year. That being said he has absolutely no shot at staying around long because he is blocked by Pedrioa, Lowrie, and Lugo's monster contract

Goose Joak Original, Ownership Group

John Henry, Tom Warner, and Larry Lucchinno make up the majority owners of the Boston Red Sox. They have brought two World Series titles in the short time since they took over.

I hope they win a dozen more.

Goose Joak Original, Wakefield

What to do with Wakefield. With an abundance of pitching it is have to decide what to do with Wakefield. His low salary makes him sensible to keep but catching him has always been a problem. To top it off this year he will be caught by a rookie.

Here is Wake in last years St Patties Day game.

I love the green uniforms.

Goose Joak Original, JD Drew

JD started the year off in regular form complaining about his back. I have never seen a ballplayer the was as big a crybaby as JD is. He can obviously play but what a whiner.

Here JD is demonstrating one of his 5 tools. I just hope he doesn't pull a hammy running that fast.

Goose Joak Original, Jon Lester

The most improbable story in baseball. A twenty something pitcher that beats cancer, throws a no-hitter, and is the ace of a pitching staff. Not to mention the big contract he just signed to keep him from becoming eligible for free agency.

I thought this was a cool picture for a card. Look at the monster real close.

A big WOW from Punk Rock Paint!!

I joined a fantasy team in which Punk Rock Paint is the commissioner. He offered to make images for any team that wanted them. Knowing how good he is at it, I took him up on his offer. He went a little above and beyond; check out what he sent me.

Thanks man!! Looking forward to the draft this week.

Goose Joak Original, Tito

Tito has been able to effectivily juggle the team and the media for the last four years. I don't know of anyone that could hav edone better or even as good. Really the only knock on Francona is he sticks with his veteran guys to long sometimes. Lowell should have never been on the postseason roster last year.

Paging Collector in Duryea PA

I received an envelope from someone in Durea, PA 18642. Whoever sent it did not put thier name on the return address so I do not know how to contact them. The reason I would like to contact them is I think they sent this to me in error. In the package was a Topps gold Carlos Gomez card. If you sent this please contact me by comment or e-mail.

Also I am way behind on posting cards I have received. I have two packages to post from White Sox Cards and I have to be the blogger that is the farthest behind on posts. I got cards from him all the way back in January. I'm going to post them soon but not this week or next week but sometime in the near future, if you consider two weeks near future. I also have a package from Tribe Cards, Grand Cards, Saints of the Cheap Seats, The Pursuit of Red Sox, I am Joe Collector and The Pettitte Pursuit. Hopefully I am not missing anyone. If you sent me something and I haven't posted some cards you sent or listed you above please drop me a reminder.

Goose Joak, Red Sox Releif Edition

The Red Sox pen looks downright awesome this year. Okajima, Saito, and Ramirez linking up to Papelbon should be able to hold the line pretty well. That isn't even mentioning Delcarmen, Lopez, and sometimes (maybe unless he starts, cross my fingers)(and toes) Masterson. This has to be one, of if not, the best pens in baseball.
Here are a couple Goose Joak relievers...

Manny Delcarmen: Manny has a ton of potential but has yet to live up to it. Maybe '09 will be the year he breaks out.
Hideki Okajima: One of our most reliable guys in the pen for the last two years. Only time will tell if the 8th inning is going to be his or newly acquired Ramon . This is a great shot of his curious throwing style. Notice he doesn't even look at the plate while throwing the ball.

Justin Masterson: Lost amid the medias attention on Buchholtz and then Lester is Justin Masterson, who just may end up being the best of the three. Not only does he have great stuff but as a rookie last year performed great even when under playoff pressure.

Takashi Saito: Picked up from the Dodgers he is supposed to be the link to Papelbon. As a former closer he should have the stuff if he can make the transition to the 8th inning role.

Jonathon Papelbon: I can't help it but when I think of Papelbon he reminds me of John Rocker. I know someone is going to say "How can a Red Sox fan think that"? Well, they are both southern boys, loudmouthed, and elite closers. (at least Rocker was till he fell apart) Did I mention loudmouthed? To me Pap is also a train wreck waiting to happen. Don't get me wrong right now he is the most dominate reliever in baseball, but his antics make him look like he is one step from the edge. Hopefully I am wrong but the Red Sox seem to sense it to given their reluctance to shore him up like the rest of the young guys. Here he is in a Rocker like moment, minus the mullet.

If nobody else thinks he acts like Rocker I'll go with this one instead.

A Fantasy break from want lists

I'm sure people have grown tired of seeing my year to year want list come up on blogrolls as I try to build a list of all of the Red Sox cards I do not yet own. It has taken way longer than I imagined it would. I though I could do some copying and pasting and have it knocked out in a few days. That was weeks ago. I can't believe how many sets there were in the 90s. I think it was a good thing that MLB thinned out the herd a few years ago and only licensed Topps and Upper Deck (for now).

As a break in the checklist posts I'm going to post my new Fantasy Team. Old School Breaks put together a league and I jumped at the chance for a team. Our draft was last night. Unfortunately I didn't get to participate. My wife goes to college and they offer free dial up to all students (that is free with not so free paid tuition) so I don't shell out the cash for high speed at home. I tried to get online to participate in the draft and after an hour of trying to load the draft page it errored because the draft was done. Fortunately I had taken the time to prioritize my picks "just in case". I know I didn't rate enough players so the last few rounds were a total crap-shoot. All in all I don't think I did to bad considering that I wasn't there to pick.

Catcher - A.J. Pierzynski
This was one of those crap-shoot picks. I wonder if he doesn't like the in his name like a certain new Yankee.

1st Base - Kevin Youkilis

I'm so happy I got Youk. This is the year he breaks out. Bill James be damned I'm predicting big numbers for Youkilis this year. I had hoped to get him in the 3rd round but if it would have been live I would have probably jumped the gun and taken him in the second.

2nd Base - Kaz Matsui
Puts the crap in crap-shoot but how many 2nd baseman put up big numbers anyway.

3rd Base - Evan Longoria
He better not have a sophomore slump I'm counting on some production here.

SS - Michael Young

Not quite Hanley or Jose but solid.

OF - Manny Ramirez
He seems happy in LA and a happy Manny hits like nobody else. He only played a half year in the NL and tore it up. I think this year may end up being his best year ever. (at least I hope so)

OF - Ichiro
Somebody on this team had to steal some bases.

OF - Adam Dunn

One more thumper in the lineup. I hope he hits in the regular season like he has in the WBC so far.
UTIL - Mike Lowell
Another Red Sox on the team was just luck of the draft because I didn't rate him at all.

BN - Jorge Posada

He may be my everyday catcher if the Yankees would ever decide who was going to do all of their catching.

OF - Nelson Cruz
Again I didn't rate enough players for the late rounds. The ink wasn't even dry in the virtual contract when Nelson was placed on waivers for...
BN - Ken Griffey Jr.
I think Griffey will be my DH. Seattle did build the stadium for his swing. And since he projects to only DH this year maybe he stays healthy.

BN - Hideki Matsui

Not big on Godzilla. The Yankees have so many outfielders he may never even play.

SP - Josh Beckett

My ace. All reports from City of Palms Park say big yer from Josh this year.

SP - Jon Lester

Another Red Sox. I couldn't help myself but rank them all high. I think he deserves it though.

RP - Bobby Jenks

On again off again closer. Scary pick for me.

RP - Jose Valverde

I don't even know the guy. I thought about dropping him for Okajima but I have so may Red Sox already....
SP - Ben Sheets

UUGGGHHH!!! Always hurt not signed = Waiver wire.....

SP - Chris Carpenter

Not a bad waiver wire guy. Supposed to be healthy so far...

SP - Josh Johnson

Don't know this guy either. Mario - was this an ok pick up?

SP - Randy Johnson

Not the Randy Johnson of old but not too bad...

RP - Justin Duchscherer

I can't say his name but he pitched in the All Star game last year so he can't be to bad.

SP - Fausto Carmona

Someone has to be at the bottom of the barrel and there are not really any starting pitchers of note left.

I'm by no means a Fantasy expert but how does everyone think I did?? I think I did okay for not even participating in the draft. The league has head to head scoring and I have a lineup in my head but it would be interesting to hear what everyone else thinks I should do. There is, by the way, some kind of award on the line so I'm not above asking for help.

Goose Joak Help, Rolling the Dice

Which card do you like better for the Goose Joak set? Happy smiley Dice-K makes baseball look fun.

This in action shot looks awesome but I don't like that you can't see his face. It may be a cool enough shot though that you don't need to see it.
Leave me a comment and let me know what each of you think. I may even put up a poll to see which one wins.

One Halo A Trade

I got an e-mail from I Heart Halos offering up his Red Sox for my Angel cards. It was one Halo a trade. I am only posting a tiny portion of what he sent me.

Ryan sent me some Vintage Sox stuff. I'm not sure what set this card is from but it is awesome. You can't really tell from the scan but it is a 5x7 card.

I'm wish that Kelloggs still put cards in their cereal. I would eat cereal every single morning and maybe even a few other meals as well. I hate to think how many of these my mom threw out when I was a kid. I love the 3-D of the cards to.

He also sent a few Hostess cards. At least I don't have to cringe thinking about my mom throwing these out because I don't remember getting any Hostess stuff as a kid.

Vintage isn't all that he sent. He sent a mini JD.

And an awesome autograph. David doesn't play for the Sox anymore but had a pretty good cup of tea with them and should now be an everyday player now that he isn't locked up behind Manny anymore.

I also got my first Red Sox Patch card. This one is manufactured by Topps but it is still special since it is my first one. You always remember your first time.

He sure is a master of on-line trading.

This SP has me down to only needing 2 more 07 Heritage cards, the team card and David Murphy.

Ryan also sent me the last cards I needed to finish of the 07 Topps Team set.

Going, Going, Going, Gone....

Thanks Ryan for all the great cards.
