A New Chase

The last time there was a regular non insert Bill Virdon base card was 2003 yankees Signature Series. Since then there have been LOTS of buybacks and a bunch of cut signature cards but no "regular" cards.  In 2025 that changes.  There is a set our there called Historic Autographs, Did You Know and in it is a Virdon base card and a bunch of parallels.  This set released on March 19th and I have only seen one Virdon so far.

This isn't the base card it is the Blue Ice Parallel numbered to 75.

It feels strange that I find a parallel before a base card but maybe people just don't list base cards on auction sites. I messaged the seller to see if he had the base card too but he did not.  I have messaged like five different eBay sellers that I see with cards from this set listed and nobody yet has the base card.

There are a total of seven new Bill Virdons for me to chase in this set.

  • Base
  • Orange Ice #/300
  • Green Ice#/200
  • Blue Ice #/75
  • Red Ice #/25
  • Black Ice #/1
  • Cut Signature #/8
There are not many cards from this set all listed at because it has a HORRIBLE box configuration. Tell me if you have ever heard of anything like this before.  This is copied straight from their site:

Box Contents:

  • 3 HA Did You Know packs
  • 3 packs from other HA products
  • 1 BONUS HA Holiday pack

Sample Packs include:

  • 2019 Federal League
  • 2022 Washington Chronicles
  • 2023 1918: End of the Great War
  • 2023 Flight
  • 2023 Gilded Age
  • 2023 Historic Retrospective
  • 2023 Mob 2

So in a box you get three packs of the Did You Know set and four random leftover packs from previous years.   Have you ever heard of anything like that?  It gets worse.  The three Did You Know packs only have four cards in them each so you only get twelve cards from the set in each box.  With 110 cards in the base set, set builders stay away!

I have never opened any Historic Autographs products, but I do like their content and have a bunch of their so-called "relics". Good luck tracking down those Virdons.
